Leicester manufacturer Roof-Maker Ltd has recently launched a completely new form of glass window and door panel which gives the ultimate in privacy and glare control whilst still providing optimum light. Called Smart-Tint, the product was patented late last year and sales have begun to take off dramatically to commercial as well as retail customers. Roof-Maker’s Managing Director Scott Nicholas is very excited with his new product’s early success.
“We have exhibited this breakthrough double-glazed unit at two UK exhibitions in the last few months and the order book is filling up rapidly. It’s very environmentally friendly – the most energy efficient glass available, and it’s affordable” he said. Smart-Tint is marketed as ‘switchable smart glass technology’ – the next generation in architectural glass. The products in the range are powered by a small transformer which switches the panel from fully transparent to fully opaque in less than a second, giving a real sense of surprise to onlookers!
From a practical point of view it replaces outdated mechanical shades and blinds with state-of-the-art technology. When used in conservatory roofs it obviates the need for expensive and difficult to install complex shaped blinds. Until now, switchable glass units were only available on long lead times with thick heavy laminates which were very expensive, limiting the market size.
Roof-Maker’s break-through design however, has resulted in lighter-weight units which are being offered at a far more affordable price. In fact they are now within the budget of ordinary people, no longer just the elite. As well as being ideal in conservatories and in complex shaped roof glazing, Roof-Maker is promoting them for use in company boardrooms, school classrooms, hospital operating theatres, entrance doors, bathrooms and other locations where privacy or glare control is required without the clutter of blinds or curtains.
What’s more, infrared solar heat transmission and glare are reduced, cutting air conditioning costs and improving overall comfort levels. Damaging UV radiation is eliminated, preventing fading of furniture and flooring. There are no moving parts involved in the components and the company offers a 10 year guarantee.
